The invention refers to a variety of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) called "Mondial" which is obtained by genealogical segregation with the participation of the D 203405 and 3 GA 234 lines, and is recommended for cultivation in all favourable areas in the country, for fresh consumption and industrialisation. This variety of plants is characterised by an average to high level of sturdiness and darker green foliage than the reference variety called Cornison de Paris. The fruit is cylindrical and rounded at the ends, has no neck, is 6-9 cm long, has a diameter of 3-4 cm, an average fruit weight of 60-90 g, and a beaded surface with white thorns. The skin is often dark green with yellowish stripes on the lower third of the body when the fruit reaches technical maturity, and whitish light-green with yellow-whitish stripes towards the top when the fruit reaches physiological maturity. The fruit is firm and crunchy, and has no holes or bitter taste. Its vegetation period is 46-48 days. This variety displays high tolerance to the main pathogenic agents: the Pseudomonas syringae pv. lachrymans bacteria, which causes angular spotting of the cucumber leaves, and the Pseudoperonospora cubensis fungus, which causes cucumber peronosporosis. This variety gives a stable production of 35-40 t/hectare.
