Method to improve total efficiency by utilizing waste heat in a combination power unit, which includes at least one large diesel engine provided with a turbo arrangement, a first exhaust expansion unit, to which the engine's exhaust is fed following the turbo unit to generate pressurized steam by using the exhaust's heat energy, a second exhaust expansion unit to further heat the generated steam and a steam turbine to convert the generated steam to electricity. When the engine is used with high power a side stream is fed from the engine's exhaust stream before being fed to the turbo unit, which is under 20%, preferably under 15% of the engine's entire exhaust stream, to the mentioned second exhaust expansion unit to refine the steam generated in the first exhaust expansion unit before being fed to the steam turbine. <IMAGE>
