The invention refers to a cooling air directing unit for high capacity hydro generators, more specifically for the hydro generators where the cooling of the active parts is made only by way of the cooling air circulated through the rotor self-ventilation effect. The directing unit, according to the invention, is composed of four distinct subunits, namely the axial sealing subunit [A], the auxiliary-shut off pump subunit [B], the shielding subunit [C] and the throttling-control subunit [D]; the axial sealing subunit [A] is placed on the upper side, respectively lower side of the hydro generator, in order to prevent the hot air inflow into the cold air circuit found in the latter and is composed of some supporting segments which make up a cylinder over the entire circumference of the hydro generator, their edge having a flexible labyrinth type laminated segment mounted [14]; the auxiliary-shut off pump subunit [B] is designed to enhance the ventilation of the hydro generator rim and is in the shape of a centrifugal fan made of a grooved core end plate [16], a laminated casing [17] fastened on the rotor centre [3]; the shielding subunit [C] is designed to direct the air flow towards the front side of the hydro generator and comprises some shields made of circular segments forming a unitary system over the entire circumference of the hydro generator, stiffened by axial ribs placed between the front ends [12] of the stator winding [6] and the casing cover [9] of the hydro generator; the throttling-control subunit [D is designed to adjust the route of the cooling air upon its flowing into the rotor centre [3] and is shaped into aerodynamic profiles [19] mounted on the outer edge of the slots [2] for the air inflow into the rotor centre [3].
