Process for preparing dispersions of plastics

A process is claimed for the prodn. of protective colloid-stabilised plastic dispersions (I) based on copolymers of (a) (1-22C alkyl) (meth)acrylates and opt. (b) other comonomers. The process comprises starting with a mixt. of at least 50 wt.% of the total amt. of monomers and protective colloid (II) in the form of an aq. emulsion and adding at least 50 wt.% of the initiator and opt. the rest of the monomers and (II) at a reaction temp. of 30-100 degrees C. Also claimed are stabilised dispersions (I) obtd. by this process, with a Tg of at least -50 degrees C and a min. film-forming temp. (MFT) of up to 60 degrees C.
