The present invention relates to an improved writing instrument, with a coupling portion having an annular protrusion and an annular recess which are formed in frontal end portion exterior surface of a writing instrument body. Further, a coupling portion has an annular protrusion and an annular recess which is formed on rear end portion exterior surface of writing instrument. A plurality of coupling protrusions is formed in interior surface of a cap placed in a predetermined split in cap circumferential direction. When cap is attached to writing instrument body, coupling protrusions are moved on annular protrusion frontal end side, and afterwards is coupled with annular recess frontal end side. When cap is attached to writing instrument body rear end, cap coupling protrusions are moved on annular protrusion rear end side, and afterwards are coupled with annular recess rear end side. As coupling result, it is less probable that cap is unintentionally detached from writing instrument body. Further, a cracking sound is produced at coupling time, thereby user being sure that cap has been suitably coupled with writing instrument body.
