The present invention has its object to provide an antihypercholesterolemic or antihyperlipidemic agent, hence a therapeutic and prophylactic drug for arteriosclerosis, which is safer and more potent in cholesterol-lowering action than the hitherto-available drugs. A cholesterol-lowering composition comprising a coenzyme Q of the following formula (I) or a reduced coenzyme Q of the following formula (II) as an active ingredient: wherein n represents an integer of 6 to 11 16
