Smart card system for use with computer connected to Internet

The connector (1) is designed to be plugged into an electronic device (3) such as a computer (13) PCMCIA modem (3). It includes a housing (6) enabling the insertion of a smart card (7). The connector is attached to a cable which is intended to be connected at its remote end to a telephone service socket. The housing may be such that the smart card is only partly inserted, so that the card can be readily removed again after use. The connector may include a system for identification, and have passing through it two buses (4,5) for transmission of data. One of these two data buses provides the interface with the telephone network, whilst the other provides the interface with the smart card.
