The satellite carries a first set of deployable panels (22a,22b; 32a,32b) forming an active aerial array, and a second set of deployable panels (42a,42b; 52a,52b) comprising solar generators. In the folded state, the panels of the aerial array are formed into a sandwich between one side of the body of the satellite and the solar generator panels. This folded state ensures that the aerial panels do no become too cold by means of radiation, or too hot by means of insulation, when the satellite occupies a position in an intermediate orbit. The solar panel which is furthest from the centre of the satellite pref. has its active surface directed outwards, so that it can generate electricity when the structures are folded and the satellite is lying in an intermediate orbit.
