<p>A process for the preparation of a polymer polyol having grafted ethylenically unsaturated acid salt comprising the following steps: (a) in situ polymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated acid in a polyol having a hydroxyl number from 15 to 80 in the presence of a free-radical polymerization initiator; (b) in situ polymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer or a mixture of ethylenically unsatured monomers in the product obtained in step (a) in the presence of a free radical polymerization initiator; and (c) neutralization of a product obtained in step (b) with an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide or alkoxide is disclosed. Polymer polyols having grafted an ethylenically unsaturated acid salt prepared by the disclosed process are used to produce a fire retardant, low fogging, flexible polyurethane foam.</p> |
