Coolant circuit for IC engine in motor vehicles

The engine cooling circuit and an independent heating circuit is connected to an engine block (1a,b) via feed and return sockets (14,16). The sockets are positioned separately on the engine block, and a return pipe (15a,15b) from the return socket to heater (12) contains a back pressure valve (19,20). The closing force of the valve is dimensioned to correspond to the maximum possible pressure differential between the sockets on the engine block. An electric pump (17,18) to regulate the heater output is positioned in the return pipe. The heater has separate heat exchangers (12a,12b) for driver and passenger sides of the vehicle.
