The signal strength value (Gji) is determined for each mobile unit (i) and the base station (i) neighbouring the favourite base station (k) associated with the mobile unit. For each mobile unit a number (Ai) of base stations is calculated for which Gji is greater than a threshold value ~a, then a number (B) of base stations giving the highest increase in data throughput is selected from (Ai), and then the mobile-base station pair giving the highest total data throughput is selected from (B), and the mobile unit is transferred to the chosen base station in this pair. |
