During manufacture, a cathode ray tube glass has applied thereto a coating film composed of at least one water-soluble material selected from the group consisting of water-soluble salts, acids being solid at room temperature, monosaccharides and polysaccharides, which is formed on the cathode ray tube glass in an amount of 0.01-100 Ág/cm<SP>2</SP> or to a film thickness of 0.1 - 200 nm. Preferably the film is lithium, sodium or potassium tetraborate. Contaminants stick to the coating and are removed therewith when the coating is washed off before subsequent manufacturing steps. |
