In a photographic silver halide (AgX) material, which has a base and light-sensitive AgX emulsion layer(s) containing dye(s) sensitising the AgX for light in the 600-690 nm region, the sensitising dye is an alpha -naphthoÄ1,2-dÜthiazolium-2-yl- gamma -benzothiazol-2-yl-trimethin cyanine salt of formula (I); in which R1 = 1-6C alkyl or a heterocyclic ring; R2, R3 = methyl (Me) or methoxy (OMe) or one of R2, R3 = hydrogen (H); R4, R5 = 1-6C alkyl, optionally substituted by hydroxyl (OH) groups; X<-> = an anion. Also claimed is a method of producing a silver (Ag) image by exposing and processing this material. |
