The clamp (1) has first clamp jaw (3) with at least one first contact surface for engaging the object (2) to be clamped. A second clamp jaw (6) is hinged to the first and has a second contact surface for engaging the object. The centre line of the hinge (7) extends parallel to the longitudinal direction of the object to be clamped. A second contact surface has more than one angle segment of a selected logarithmic spiral, so that each segment can accommodate an object in another dimensional range. TECHNOLOGY FOCUS METALLURGY - The surface of the second contact surface is of steel and the relevant surface of the object is of aluminium.
