PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which enables high density recording and assures excellent running durability. SOLUTION: In a magnetic recording medium comprising a supporting layer and a magnetic layer as least as the upper most layer, ferro-magnetic powder including Al-W obtained by the surface treatment of ferro-magnetic powder with Al compound and W compound and/or non-magnetic powder including Al-W obtained by the surface treatment of non-magnetic powder with Al compound and W compound are included, and a containing ratio of Al and W in the ferro-magnetic powder including Al-W and non-magnetic powder including Al-W is set to 99:1 to 40:60 in terms of the weight ratio. |
