Serum levels of interleukin-12 (IL-12) and/or the cellular levels mRNA encoding IL12, are increased in mammals b: (i) measuring a base level of IL-12 (or encoding mRNA); (ii) administering an oligonucleotide (I) that has a structural motif which induces in vivo expression of IL-12; and (iii) measuring IL-12 (or encoding mRNA) levels after this treatment.
