PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly and slowly cool a wire rod in the width direction by dividing a cooling stage for cooling while conveying the annular wire rod with a conveyor, into plural steps and changing the conveying direction by a specific angle after completing one cooling step. SOLUTION: The wire rod 1 is discharged onto the conveyor 3 as annular state and conveyed while slowly cooled. At the outlet of the conveyor 3, a conveyor 5 having different conveying direction by 90 deg. angle, is arranged and the wire rod 1 is changed onto the conveyor 5 having the different direction by 90 deg. to the conveyor 3. Since the advancing direction of the annular wire rod is changed by 90 deg., a part positioned at the center in the width direction on the conveyor, is positioned at the edge part in the width direction, and a part positioned at the edge part in the width direction, is positioned at the center in the width direction. Thereafter, the annular wire rod is conveyed with the conveyor 5 while slowly cooled, and changed onto a conveyor 6 and cooled to near the room temp., and hot rolling process is completed at a tab 8 for coiling. Then, the changing angle of the advancing direction of the wire rod 1 is not always necessary to be 90 deg., but may be about 90 deg.±15 deg..
