PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lid assembly which can control pouring of liquid through the lid assembly as to the lid assembly to be used for a container assembly. SOLUTION: A lid assembly 20 can be attached the container 26 of a container assembly and includes a spigot housing 50 through which liquid can be poured. The spigot housing 50 is configured with a grip portion 56 for facilitating tipping of the container assembly. A pouring conduit 67 communicates with a cavity 36 in the container and is provided in the lid assembly 20. A spring-loaded valve assembly 66 is retained in the spigot housing 50 to controllably pour liquid from the container 26 through the pouring conduit 67. A check valve assembly 116 provides controlled introduction of air into the container 26 to equalize the pressure in the cavity during pouring.
