A principal chassis (1) supports a tank (9) for an engine (13) which drives a pump (5). This pump supplies through pipes (16) a distributor (4). This hydraulic system operates an actuator (2) which has at its end a wedge (3) which penetrates into the log to split it without splintering. The engine also drivers a speed multiplier (10) which operates the saw blade placed inside the chassis. A tipping cover (7) progressively opens when the load carriage (11) is pushed allowing the saw blade to appear through its opening. The cover automatically closes when the wood is cut. Sawdust is recovered in a bag (12) suspended under the chassis. The blade can be lubricated from a reservoir placed under the chassis.
