The control method monitors the relative position of the cutting edge and the workpiece surface using detection of the friction noise, in conjunction with a machine tool displacement measuring system. The machined workpiece is checked against the machining tolerances, with measurement and compensation of the temperature variations and the variation in the cutting length and the springing relative to the workpiece.
