Purification of exhaust gases charged with nitrogen oxide(s)

Purification of exhaust gases charged with nitrogen oxides comprises preheating the exhaust gases using a heat exchanger (1) and post-heating with a burner. Two regenerators (6,7) filled with ceramic heat storage compositions (8,9) are used as the heat exchanger. The exhaust gas, for preheating, is fed with the heated compositions (8,9) to one regenerator (6,7) and the hot denitrogenated exhaust gas fed counter-currently to the other regenerator (6,7). An apparatus used to carry out the process is also claimed.
