Ignition control method for internal combustion engines

The ignition control circuit for the AC driven spark plug provides a variable primary current for the ignition coil to shape the discharge characteristic and thereby control the energy of the discharge. The optimum discharge energy is derived from engine parameters such as crankshaft speed, temperature, torque, exhaust monitoring, fuel mixture etc. A simple control has an initial reference voltage for the initial amplitudes of the discharge pattern and a second, lower reference voltage for the remainder of the discharge pattern.
