The conveyor has a conveyor rotor (5) interacting with a pick-up drum and cutter blades for filling a conveyor channel section (2) which is adjoined by a second conveyor channel section (13). The back wall (18) of this second channel section can be rapidly removed so that harvested material of slight dampness can be heavily compacted in the loading chamber, with the extra rotor switched off. The back wall can be quickly refitted. The shape of the tines (15) of the extra rotor (16) is such that when this extra rotor is inactive the tines close the slits (17) in the front wall and their outer contours (23) substantially follow the path of the front wall (14). The extra rotor can be locked secured against rotation in its inactive position and its drive can be coupled.
