Low emissivity layer system especially for glass

A low-E layer system for transparent substrates, especially glass panes has (a) a protective layer of an alloy of Ti, Zr or Hf with Al, Pt or Pd or of an AlSi alloy on a silver functional layer which overlies a lower metal oxide anti-reflection layer; and (b) an upper metal oxide anti-reflection multilayer which comprises two metal oxide layers and a hard oxide cover layer, one of the metal oxide layers consisting of ZnO doped with 0.1-10 wt.% total of one or more of B, Si, Ga, Sn, Al, Co, Mg, Mn, Fe, Ni and Cr and the other metal oxide layer consisting of SnO2 or Bi2O3.
