The laser printer uses a number of laser beams, controlled by a control circuit providing a corresponding number of laser modulation signals in accordance with the pixel information for a number of scanning lines, for parallel printing of the latter. The control circuit has an edge smoothing circuit with a memory (101) holding the pixel data for the scanning lines and the scanning position of the first laser beam, a logic circuit (102) providing the laser modulation data, a buffer memory (103) for the laser modulation data and a pulse width modulation circuit (104) providing the laser modulation signals.
