Transmission of analog data within a digital communication system (100) takes place by transmitting analog tones to a remote unit (113). Analog tones enter the remote unit (113) and are appropriately digitized for transmission via an uplink communication signal (119) to a base station (101). Once the digitized data has been received by the base station (101), it is appropriately demodulated and transmitted to a Centralized Base Station Controller (CBSC) (103). The CBSC (103) performs a digital to analog conversion where the digitized analog signal is converted back to its original analog tone form, and transmitted to a Public Switched Telephone Network (105).
|
