Preparation of cyclic products (I) involves selective olefin metathesis of bi- or polyfunctional substrates (II), containing two or more functional groups in the form of optionally substituted alkene or alkyne units, in presence of a homogeneous or heterogeneous metathesis catalyst (III), in a reaction medium consisting of compressed carbon dioxide (CO2).
