The back rest (11) of the seat of the vehicle can be adjustably inclined in relation to the seat (10) by means of an adjustable armature and can be tilted forward after a locking device is released. The seat (10) is fixed on the slide rail (15) and can be longitudinally displaced in relation to guide rails (16) that are fixed in the vehicle. At least one slide rail (15) has a locking device (19) that can be released from a connection to the guide rail (16). The seat length can be reset by means of a positioning device (31) having a positioning plate (35) with latch toothing (36). The toothed segment (58) of a stop lever (57) which is fixed in relation to the slide rail (15) but which can be controlled engages in said latch toothing. A spring-loaded winding drum (32) is mounted coaxially in relation to the positioning plate (35). The seat (10) can be moved forward with said drum by means of a tensional member that is fixed on the floor of the vehicle or on the guide rail (16). The winding drum (32) has a stop to limit its restoring movement brought about by a counter stop on the positioning plate (35). In order to create a more compact constructional unit requiring less components and enabling a more economical production, a connecting block (52) is mounted between the stop of the winding drum (32) and the counter stop of the positioning plate (32) which is guided in a spiral connecting link (5) and which preferably enables several rotations of the winding drum (32).
