An electronic device for starting and controlling a single-phase synchronous motor (1) with a permanent-magnet rotor (1A) by a static switch (2) connected in series with the supply mains and the motor. The circuit processes two quantities, namely the voltage (8) applied to the static switch (2) and the position of the rotor (1A) provided by a position sensor (3).
