Press moulding process for making shaped concrete articles

The apparatus has positioning cylinders which are used to raise or lower the base of a mould (2) that is filled with concrete and then compacted using a hammer (40). The density of the concrete in the mould is measured as a function of hammer displacement and the height position of the cylinder is regulated by a control unit coupled to the concrete density measuring device. Concrete density measurements are calibrated using a device (45) placed inside the mould which controls the hammer settings. Preferably concrete density is measured using a laser (41) mounted on the hammer. The cylinders are mounted at the end of a rotating arm.
