The invention is based on a voltage detector for measurement and protection purposes in medium-voltage switch gear. Said voltage detector comprises an ohmic voltage divider cast in a casting resin which is connected to an overvoltage diverter having a grounding connection. The invention improves the voltage detector in that it can be used with different ranges of medium-high voltage, has a compact design and can be assembled easily. Said detector comprises a voltage divider (2) consisting of a high ohmic high-voltage resistor (R1) and several low-voltage divider resistors (R2; R3) which are connected in series with said high-voltage resistor, which on their output side are each connected to a contact element (7.1, 7.2, 7.3) positioned on the outside of the voltage detector, and in which the overvoltage diverter (3) is arranged parallel to the low-voltage divider resistors (R2, R3).
