Solid separation from suspension by induced air flotation

An apparatus for separation of solids from solid-liquid suspension by induced air flotation. It includes a nozzle element with a cone-shaped deflecting element (12) arranged inside, and spaced from, a funnel-shaped outer casing (14) so that an annular channel (16) is formed between the cone and funnel. A liquid propulsion jet (20) is placed near an apex of the deflecting cone and arranged to cause the liquid exiting to impinge on the deflecting cone and to be fanned out. One or more trip edges (22) are placed within the annular channel to break up a laminar boundary layer in the channel to promote turbulence in fluid flow in the channel. Also claimed is an apparatus for separation of solids in fluid suspension by induced air flotation. Also claimed are two methods for separation of solids in fluid suspension by induced air flotation.
