Color and hydrolytic stabilization of polycarbonate resins

An aromatic polycarbonate composition comprises an aromatic polycarbonate and a stabiliser composition containing (a) at least one phosphite, phosphine or phosphonite and (b) hexamethylene tetramine. The stabiliser provides improved colour and hydrolytic stability while maintaining good processing properties. Also claimed are (i) a process for preparing a thermoplastic article from the polycarbonate composition by extruding and pelletising the polycarbonate and the stabiliser and then forming the finished article under heat and pressure, the composition comprising 99.99-99.7 wt.% polycarbonate and 0.01-0.3 wt.% stabiliser; and (ii) a transparent thermoplastic aromatic polycarbonate article with improved colour and hydrolytic stability.
