PURPOSE:To obtain the subject fiber, excellent in high tenacity, elasticity and hot water resistance and useful as industrial materials, etc., by applying a prescribed amount of a surfactant composed of amide bonds, etc., in the molecule to PVA fiber having a high polymerization degree during a period to a time just before dry hot drawing. CONSTITUTION:PVA fiber having >=3000, preferably 6000 viscosity-average polymerization degree is dry hot drawn. In the process, a surfactant composed of at least one of an ammonium compound or sulfonate compound having amide bond or urea bond in the molecule or an amine compound of a phosphate or a sulfonate in an amount of 0.01-3wt.% based on the aforementioned fiber is applied thereto. The resultant fiber is subsequently drawn at >=235 deg.C temperature so as to afford >=17 times total draw ratio. Thereby, the objective fiber is obtained. |
