A photographic or cinematographic camera has a viewfinder and a photo-electric exposure meter wherein the viewfinder and exposure meter are combined to form a single unit which can be swung in a plane containing the optical axis of the camera lens. In the camera shown, a diaphragm 4 is connected through a gear train to a diaphragm 9 which controls the amount of light reaching a photo-cell 10. This photocell is connected by leads 12 to a galvanometer 13, the pointer 15 of which is visible in the field of a viewfinder 16. An index 18 is pivotable about a pin 19 in accordance with a film sensitivity scale 19a. The pointer is brought into correspondence with the index 18 by moving a handle 21 mounted on the shaft of one of the gear-wheels thereby adjusting diaphragms 4, 9 as well as the pointer. If the object is nearer than 1.5 m. the viewfinder, together with the galvanometer 13 is rotated about a pivot 30 by means of a rod 27 connected at one end to a pin 29 on the viewfinder and at the other end to a slide 22 movable along a scale indicating distance values. A locking device for the slide 22 comprises a button 23 having a thicker portion, said button being normally urged by spring 37 so that the thicker portion engages one of a series of recesses in the plate 22.
