PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift down device for a vehicle to effect shift down of an automatic transmission only during deceleration by sensing a will of deceleration and acceleration of a driver from accelerator operation. SOLUTION: When the detecting value of an inter-vehicle distance detecting means (a range finder 7) is lower than a target inter-vehicle distance based on a car speed and an accelerator operation detecting means (a throttle position sensor 4) detects operation to a direction in which an accelerator is returned, shift down of an automatic transmission 2 is effected by a controller 8, when operation in a direction in which an accelerator is returned is not detected by an accelerator operation detecting means, it is decided that a driver effects acceleration for passing and shift down of the automatic transmission 2 is not effected and acceleration thereof is permitted. |
