1,009,072. Gas lighters. T. IKETANI. April 14, 1964 [May 17, 1963], No. 15386/64. Heading F4F. A filling valve 2 for a liquefied gas lighter comprises a gas discharge passage 20 which is closed by a mouthpiece 17 axially movable in the valve body. The mouthpiece 17 is pushed downwardly to close the discharge passage by a spring 15 which also keeps closed the valve member 7 through which the lighter is refilled. The mouthpiece is raised to open the discharge passage by pulling it upwardly and rotating it; lugs 24 on the mouthpiece are thus withdrawn from recesses in the upper edge of the valve 2. The lugs and recesses may have cam surfaces so that rotation of the mouthpiece causes it to be raised, Figs. 5-7 (not shown). The inner wall of the mouthpiece may be hexagonal so that the mouthpiece can be rotated by means of a replenishing fuel container having a valve connection of hexagonal shape. The filling valve member 7 is adapted to be pushed open by the valve connection of the replenishing fuel container. In the valve of Figs. 1, 2 (not shown) the mouthpiece is threaded into the valve body and the spring 15 is disposed in the lighter reservoir between the bottom of the valve member 7 and a downward extension of the valve body. In the valves of Figs. 5, 7 the discharge passage 20 extends through a side wall of the valve body into an annular groove closed by the mouthpiece. |
