An user information channel is established in a call originating exchange, by establishing a sub-channel by giving a sequence number which is unique within each interconnecting link, to input of a selected multiplexer (65). A mapping function is used to obtain a relation between the sequence number and user information channel. The established channel is used for transmitting information to obtain an interconnecting link. A message comprising information about the relation obtained using the mapping function, is transmitted to another exchange, so as to create similar relation at that exchange.
