PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the electrical energy stored in a battery, by providing a second polyphase AC motor-generator apart from a first polyphase AC motor- generator directly coupled with an internal combustion engine, and driving a power transmission gear by converting and transmitting electrical energy in both directions between the motor-generators and battery. SOLUTION: A first polyphase AC motor-generator 1 directly coupled with an internal combustion engine 20 is connected to a battery 5 through a first inverter 11, and the engine 20 is connected to a power transmission gear 7 through a first clutch 21. In addition, the gear 7 is connected to a second polyphase AC motor-generator 2 through a second clutch 22 and the generator 2 is connected to the battery 5 through a second inverter 12. Wheels 19 are driven through the gear 7, etc., by converting and transmitting electric energy in both directions between the battery 5 and the motor-generator 1 or 2 by controlling the engagement and disengagement of the clutches 21 and 22 and turning on/off of the inverters 11 and 12 in accordance with the charging rate of the battery 5. |
