PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a flame retardant composition for existing urethane foams, capable of retarding the combustion of the urethane foams by a penetrating, coating, spraying or dipping method. SOLUTION: This flame retardant composition comprises (1) 94-80 pts.wt. of an aqueous solution containing 5-20 wt.% of water glass having a SiO2 content of >=28 wt.% and (2) 6-20 pts.wt. of a mixture comprising 100 pts.wt. of Portland cement and 1 pt.wt. of a lignin sulfonate salt, wherein the total amount of the composition is 100 pts.wt., or comprises (1) 90-70 pts.wt. of an aqueous solution having a calcium chloride content of 5-20 wt.% and (2) 10-30 pts.wt. of a mixture comprising silica powder and alumina cement in the same amounts, respectively, wherein the total amount of the composition is 100 pts.wt. |
