PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a maintaining recovering operation using a cleaning liquid automatically by providing means for detecting mounting of a maintenance cartridge. SOLUTION: Upon receiving a detection signal indicative of mounting a maintenance cartridge from a maintenance cartridge mounting sensor 78, a main control section 71 controls driving of a main scanning motor 73 to shift a carriage 5 to the subsystem side. Consequently, the carriage 5 is engaged with a cap holder and a cap holder is lifted up so that the jetting face of a recording head is capped with the cap 32. Subsequently, suction operation and wiping operation are performed a specified number of times and a maintenance liquid is sucked into recording head. Thereafter, the maintenance liquid in the cap 32 is discharged and wiping operation is performed thus ending maintenance. |
