A compound represented by the following general formula (I) is added to at least one layer of a silver halide photographic photosensitive material, thereby improving sharpness and graininess or decreasing a variation in photographic performance during storage after photography and before development: <IMAGE> General Formula (I) where A represents a coupler moiety, each of R1 and R2 independently represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent, each of R3 and R4 independently represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, INH represents a group having a development inhibiting function, and R5 represents a nonsubstituted phenyl group, a nonsubstituted primary alkyl group, or a primary alkyl group substituted with a group other than an aryl group, at least one of R1 to R4 being a substituent other than a hydrogen atom, and an -OC(=O)- group combining with one of two nitrogen atoms forming a pyrazole ring.
