PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lower self-discharge to be generated in the case where a carbon electrode is used for negative electrode by charging a lithium secondary battery once or more at a temperature higher than the operating temperature. SOLUTION: A self-discharge is generated in the case where charge is insufficient and a vacant part, to which lithium is to be moved, exists in the carbon and the movement of lithium to the vacant part is speeded up with a temperature change and the number of vacant part, to which lithium is to be moved, is increased. At this stage, all vacant parts, to which lithium is to be moved, are filled with lithium at the operating temperature by charging a lithium secondary battery at a temperature higher than the operating temperature. Furthermore, charging speed in the electrolyte is increased, and a quantity of charge at a constant current value is increased. A similar condition is generated in the case where other alkali metal is inserted into the carbon, and this method is utilized for a battery utilizing insertion and drawing of the alkali metal into/from the carbon. |
