PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a summary sentence generating device capable of preparing a highly accurate summary sentence within short process sing time. SOLUTION: When the number of lines of a summary sentence prepared up to now is smaller than the set number of lines for a summary (YES in S64) and the line concerned is not the final line of the sentence (NO in S66), whether a start flag stored in a start flag memory 52 is ON or not is judged (S68). When the start flag is ON (ON in S68), the sentence being processed at present is added to a summary sentence memory 82 (S72). When the start flag is OFF (OFF in S68), the length of the sentence being processed at present (hereafter referred to as 'current line length') is calculated (S70), and when the current line length is smaller than the maximum value of current line lengths calculated in the past (YES in S74), the start flag is turned on (S82) and the just preceding sentence is added to the memory 82 (S84). |
