For 75 W lighting with a 220 V mains supply, a halogen lamp is assembled from a U-shaped double-wound filament (6) and a cylindrical quartz glass bulb (2) 35 mm long with a pinch seal (5) at the end remote from the filling point (4). The limbs (8) of the U lie in a plane contg. the axis and are kept apart by one or more stays (22) 10 mm long and 1 mm square, extending between them from the pinch-seal end.
