[Also in Division H1] In order to prevent the short-circuiting of the inter-tap winding 1a to 1b (Fig. 1) during a tap change on an on-load transformer, circuitbreakers 12a, 12b ... 12n are inserted in the short-circuit in series with the diverter switch 10 and automatically open when the shortcircuit current flows. The circuit breakers comprise two resilient contact members 16, 17 (Fig. 2) which during a short-circuit current surge repel each other and arcing occurs between them which reduces the short-circuit current to zero. The contacts 16 and 17 are prevented from closing again before the diverter switch 10 reaches the position 8 by pistons 22 at their ends seating in cylinders 23 which occlude air and prevents its escape when the piston 1 return. Interlocking of the circuit-breaker with an arm 9 (Fig. 3, not shown), prevents the formation of an arc across the switch 9 if when the tapchange takes place a system short-circuit occurs.</p> |
