Automatic applicator for container coverings e.g. of fruit and vegetables

The applicator consists of a conveyor belt (1) carrying the containers (2) at a low speed beneath a reel (3) of the covering material, and cutting (4) and fastening (5) units to attach the covering material in sections to the containers. The applicator also has a braking mechanism (6) for the roll of covering material to keep the material under tension and flat while it is being applied, while a compressor (7) keeps it taut while it is being cut and fastened.
