[Also in Division F2] In a tractor including a lockable differential 54 controlled by a pedal 78 and disc brakes 38, 40 individually controlled by pedals 32, 34 to assist steering by differential braking of the driven wheels 14,16, an interconnection between the pedal 78 and the brake pedals 32, 34 effects automatic release of the differential lock upon depression of either brake pedal. The pedal 78 is mounted on a pivot 80 and by exerting pressure on the front portion 82 of the pedal a valve 72 is. depressed against a spring 94 and is retained by " over-centring " of a link 88 in a position wherein hydraulic fluid from a pump P is supplied through a line 74 to an annular piston 76 which effects engagement of an annular multiple disc clutch 70 connecting one side gear 68 with the gear carrier 62 of the differential. The valve 72 may be released by depressing the rear portion 84 of the pedal 78, or is released upon applying either brake by a link 96 which is connected to the pedal 78 by an adjustable connection 102, to the brake pedal 32 by a pin-and-slot lost-motion connection 106, 108, and to the pedal 34 by a secondary link 98 and a similar pin-and-slot connection (not shown). Each brake pedal 32, 34 is provided with a return spring and actuates a valve (Fig. 6, not shown) controlling fluid flow from an hydraulic pump to the cylinder of the associated brake.</p> |
