The electric hotplate, or hob, has flat form heating elements for each cooking position. One heating element comprises a spiral (5) and is connected to an inductive power supply which provides a time variable electric field while the resistive heating element is connected to a power supply which provides a controlled current. The cooking process uses both heating methods e.g. inductive heating for a rapid warm-up and resistive heating for simmering. The flat form heating elements are made of metal foil and are applied to one surface of the support plate by adhesive. The two elements can be made in one piece or in separate section. The heating elements are covered with a protective layer.
