PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to lower light transmission loss and to enhance heat resistance by composing a core of polymer contg. substantially specific repeating units. SOLUTION: The plastic optical fiber having a core/clad structure in which the core is substantially composed of the polymer contg. the repeating units expressed by the formula is used. In the formula, R<1> denotes a hydrogen atom or 1 to 25C hydrocarbon group or alicyclic hydrocarbon group, (n) denotes a positive integer. The content of the repeating units expressed by this formula are not particularly limited. R<1> is preferably methyl, cyclohexyl, tricyclodecanyl and adamantyl group in terms of heat resistance as repeating unit components expressed by the formula. Further, methyl methacrylate is most preferable in terms of transparency and transmission loss as the component exclusive of the repeating units expressed by the formula of the polymer. |
